Waterfall Bay Track
Guide updated · verify live track status with Parks Tasmania
Coastal track to Waterfall Bay. During the Tasmans Arch and Devils Kitchen works (15 April–29 September 2026 as published 18 Aug 2026), access from Devils Kitchen stays closed; the track remains accessible via Waterfall Bay Road. Verify the live alert before you go.
Do not pair: Do not add Cape Hauy after a confused Arch closure morning from Hobart.
Turnaround: Reverse when the view is done. Do not bush-bash toward closed platforms.
- Driving to Tasmans Arch car park during the closure and losing the morning arguing with a gate.
- Assuming Waterfall Bay is closed because Arch/Kitchen is closed — official notes say the track stays open from Waterfall Bay Road.
- Short coastal walk — verify grade on Parks Tasmania
- Allow 1–2 hours depending on start point
- Short return (verify signed distance)
- Effort: easy
- Best for: A shorter northern-peninsula walk when Tasmans Arch / Devils Kitchen platforms are closed or crowded
Distance, grade, time and open/closed status change — verify on Parks Tasmania before you go.

Where you start
Waterfall Bay Road (during the 2026 Arch/Kitchen closure)
Do not assume you can start from the Tasmans Arch / Devils Kitchen visitor site while it is closed for infrastructure works. Parks Tasmania: use Waterfall Bay Road.
How to get there
- Northern sites sit off Blowhole Road (C338) near Eaglehawk Neck — unsealed, limited parking.
- Parks Pass required.
- Confirm the current start because the Arch/Kitchen visitor site is closed 15 April–29 September 2026 (verify end date on alerts).
How to do it (step by step)
- Start from the signed Waterfall Bay Road access while the Devils Kitchen connection is closed.
- Walk to the waterfall-into-sea view. Reverse.
- Do not try to force a look at Tasmans Arch or Devils Kitchen through closed gates.
What to expect
A short coastal walk to a waterfall dropping toward the sea. Grade and signed distance change — confirm on Parks Tasmania. It is not Tasmans Arch, and it is not Cape Hauy.
During the 2026 Arch/Kitchen works the usual Devils Kitchen connection is closed. Official notes: use Waterfall Bay Road. That is the whole logistics story for this year.
Logistics
Parks Pass. Northern peninsula, not C344. Limited parking. Pair with Tessellated Pavement and the Blowhole if those sites are open and tide allows.
Hazards and reverse
Cliff edges, works traffic, unsealed access. Reverse when the view is done. Do not bush-bash toward closed Arch/Kitchen platforms.
Packing list (shell, grip, water) lives on the gear hub— not as a merch wall on every walk. Pairing and Plan B: plan your visit · Arch/Kitchen closed Plan B.

Extra tips
- Pair with Tessellated Pavement and the Blowhole if those sites are open.
- Limited parking — have a Plan B lookout.
Often paired with Tessellated Pavement— only if energy and weather allow.
