Crescent Bay & Mount Brown

Access via Safety Cove Road from Port Arthur township: Remarkable Cave, Maingon Blowhole, Mount Brown and Crescent Bay tracks. Separate from Cape Hauy (Fortescue) and Cape Raoul (Stormlea). Parks Pass required. Port Arthur Historic Site is next door and is a separate ticket.

Do not pair: Do not pair with Cape Hauy the same day from Hobart.

Turnaround: Remarkable Cave is the short day. Reverse before the dune/climb if time is gone.

  • “We’ll just quickly do Crescent Bay after the Historic Site” — you leave in the dark.
  • Verify grade on Parks Tasmania
  • Allow a half to full day — not a Port Arthur lunch break
  • Return from Remarkable Cave / Safety Cove precinct — confirm signs
  • Effort: moderate
  • Best for: Dunes, Crescent Bay and Mount Brown when you are already on Safety Cove Road

Distance, grade, time and open/closed status change — verify on Parks Tasmania before you go.

  1. Arthur Highway to Port Arthur, then Safety Cove Road.
  2. Parks Pass for the national park walks. Historic Site entry is not that pass.

How to do it (step by step)

  1. Remarkable Cave is a short geology stop. Mount Brown / Crescent Bay is the walk commitment — confirm signed times.
  2. Do not invent a loop onto Three Capes hut alignment.

What to expect

Logistics

Not C344. Not Stormlea. If you only have two hours after Port Arthur, stay at Remarkable Cave. Do not invent a loop onto Three Capes hut alignment.

Hazards and reverse

Cliffs, dunes, weather, and mixing a Historic Site clock with a real walk. Reverse before the dune/climb if daylight is gone. Do not pair with Cape Hauy the same day from Hobart.

Packing list (shell, grip, water) lives on the gear hub— not as a merch wall on every walk. Pairing and Plan B: plan your visit · Arch/Kitchen closed Plan B.
